阿吉是海鲜铺的伙计，嗜武如命，又喜打抱不平，为老板若来不少麻烦。一日，他因见当地恶霸欺压乡民，而与他们发生冲突，后被师傅逐出门墙，在机缘巧合下拜在螳螂派门下学习螳螂拳，后师傅与爱人双双被恶霸仇家所杀，阿吉悲愤异常，神智疯癫，正好练成癫螳螂，无形中功夫大进，在铲除恶霸后，却无法复原，镇民为纪念他给他取了一个外号“癫螳螂”。Superstition, magic, and bad decisions drive us down a road into a small town in rural Louisiana with Devin, a 17-year-old boy, being dragged to his mother's hometown after his parent's' ugly divorce.
